Look Out
This is a brand new course, launched in 2023 in direct response to feedback from the young people we work with; they shared with us that they are more likely to confide in a friend than an adult but that when this happens, they don’t always know how to respond or how to help.
The one hour, interactive session is delivered to individuals aged 9-18 by our Wellbeing Coaches. It’s an educational course which teaches young people how to recognise the signs that they or a friend might be struggling with their mental health, how to start a conversation with them, how to practically support them and where to get further help. We also explore the idea of ‘keeping secrets’ and how important it is to share information with an adult if you are worried about a friend. Sadly, we are aware of a number of suicides in our region where parents/carers had no idea that their child was struggling to such an extent but their child had confided in their closest friends and asked them ‘not to tell’.
Everyone receives a booklet to take away with them – designed to fit in their blazer pocket – which details the key takeaways from the course as well as other organisations which can help them in a crisis.
