Who is the training for?
This course is ideal for anyone (18 and over) who would like to gain the knowledge and skills to spot signs of people experiencing poor mental health, be confident to start a conversation and signpost a person to appropriate support. In addition, you will become part of the largest dedicated community of Mental Health First Aiders in England, the Association of Mental Health First Aiders, gaining access to resources, ongoing learning, and 24/7 digital support, to give you the tools and knowledge you need to carry out the role effectively and confidently, whether that be in your workplace, a volunteer role, or in the community.
What will I learn?
As an MHFAider you will be able to:
- Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
- Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
- Practise active listening and empathy
- Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
- Discuss the MHFAider role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
- Practise self-care
- Know how to use the MHFAider Support App
- Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England
What about ongoing support?
This course provides plenty of resources which you can take away with you, including:
- A hard copy workbook to support your learning throughout the course
- A digital manual to refer to whenever you need it after completing the course
- A wallet-sized reference card with the Mental Health First Aid action plan
- A digital MHFAider certificate
- Access to the MHFAider Support App for three years
- Access to ongoing learning opportunities, resources and exclusive events
- The opportunity to be part of the largest MHFAider community in England
Do I get a certificate?
Once completed, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance to authenticate you are an MHFAider, valid for three years.

MHFA England value this course at £325 per person, however we are pleased to be able to offer places at the reduced price of £175 per person.

Who is it for?
Anyone who has completed the Adult Mental Health First Aid course in the last three years. This refresher session is a chance to renew your skills and knowledge of mental health support.
What will I learn?
This refresher session is a chance to:
- Recognise those who may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
- Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
- Practise active listening and empathy
- Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
- Discuss the role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
- Practise self-care
- Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
- Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England®
- Learn beyond the course through membership of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders
What about ongoing support?
This course provides plenty of resources as part of your ongoing membership to the Association of Mental Health First Aiders®, including:
- The MHFAider Support App. Access to features such as a 24/7 text support service, signposting to a national database of health services, and insights that teach critical self-care skills.
- Access to the MHFA England Online Learning Hub. This includes resources such as course manuals and MHFAider guides.
- Monthly newsletters. MHFAiders are kept up to date with all the latest news from our community.
Do I receive a certificate when the course is completed?
Once completed, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance to confirm that you have refreshed your Adult Mental Health First Aid Skills, valid for three years.
How long does the course take?
This is a 4-hour, online course.
How much does it cost?
MHFA England value this course at £150 per person, however we are pleased to be able to offer places at the reduced price of £75 per person.

Who is the training for?
Anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of mental health and the confidence to champion mental health awareness in their workplace or community.
What will I learn?
The Adult Mental Health One Day Champion course, gives you:
- An understanding of some common mental health issues
- Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness
- Ability to spot signs of mental ill health
- Skills to support positive wellbeing
- Applying the MHFA action plan and recovery
What about ongoing support?
Everyone who completes the course gets:
- A manual to refer to whenever you need it
- A quick reference card for the Mental Health First Aid action plan
- A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health
Do I receive a certificate when the course is completed?
Once completed, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance to say you are an MHFA Champion.
How long does the course take?
This is a one-day course.

Who is the training for?
Anyone who wants to increase their awareness of mental health.
What will I learn?
This course raises awareness of mental health. It covers:
- What mental health is and how to challenge stigma
- A basic knowledge of some common mental health issues
- An introduction to looking after your own mental health and maintaining wellbeing
- Confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue
What about ongoing support?
Everyone who completes the course gets:
- A manual to refer to whenever you need it
- A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health
Do I receive a certificate when the course is completed?
Once completed, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance to say you are Mental Health Aware.
How long does the course take?
This is a half-day course.

Who is the training for?
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course has been updated for 2025 with the latest knowledge and research. This course is ideal for everyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8-18. The programme will give you the skills and confidence to spot the signs of a young person experiencing poor mental health, the confidence to start a conversation, and the tools to safeguard and signpost to appropriate support.
What will I learn?
Youth Mental Health First Aiders will be able to:
- Explain what mental health is
- Describe how to look after their own mental health and wellbeing
- Describe the signs of poor mental health in young people
- Explain some of the risk factors associated with poor mental health in young people
- Demonstrate how to apply the Youth MHFA action plan in a Youth Mental Health First Aid conversation
- Describe the role of a Youth MHFAider®
- Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
- Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England®
- Learn beyond the course through membership of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders®

This refresher session is a chance to renew your skills and knowledge, so you’re always confident and prepared to support young people aged 8 to 18.
- Renew your skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.
- Update your knowledge of mental health support, developing your confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress.
- Practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan.
Once you have completed your MHFA Refresher course, you will be certified for three years and will be invited to become or stay a member of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders – making sure you have everything you need to feel confident when supporting young people.

- Some of the common mental health issues affecting young people, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders and psychosis
- Skills to work more effectively with young people living with mental health issues
- Ways to support young people with a mental health issue and relate to their experiences

Everyone who completes the course gets a manual to keep and refer to whenever you need it.
Do I receive a certificate when the course is completed?
Once completed, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance to say you are Youth Mental Health Aware.
